Ballenas Celebrates Grand Opening of First Housing Complex in Parksville

A grand opening was held on July 11, 2023, to celebrate Ballenas Housing Society’s affordable housing complex in Parksville, BC.

Their newest community, located at 360 and 364 Moilliet Street S, is their first to be built outside of Nanaimo. The complex features townhomes and apartments providing 87 homes designed for independent low to moderate income families, seniors, veterans, and people living with disabilities.

Attendees of the celebration included MLA for Parksville-Qualicum Adam Walker, City of Parksville Mayor Doug O’Brien, and representatives from BC Housing, Kelland Ventures, and Ballenas Housing Society.

“We are so grateful to Ballenas for making this housing project possible. I am excited to be part of this announcement; these are the first subsidized and purpose-built homes in a community with historically low vacancy rates. Working together we are able to meet our commitment to invest in more inclusive sustainable housing in British Columbia.” Adam Walker, MLA for Parksville-Qualicum

“This is a great day for Parksville. We are very pleased to see this project come to a successful completion. The City is proud to have supported this project and its ongoing success.” Doug O’Brien, City of Parksville Mayor

“We extend our thanks to BC Housing, CMHC, the Regional District of Nanaimo, and the City of Parksville who all contributed to making this new development possible. Ballenas believes everyone deserves well maintained housing with a sense of home and community.” David Brooks, Ballenas Chair
